How diabetes encounters?

Type 1 diabetes
Diabetes is incurable but controllable

Diabetes is of course a formidable problem of today’s era, which is not limited to one nationality but is spread worldwide. Definitely we can control diabetes, but we cannot eradicate it from the root. This problem is so serious that it can even increase the risk to heart, kidneys, blood pressure and eyes. In this disease, we know that the level of blood sugar goes beyond a certain limit due to imbalance caused to our immune system and extra sugar is absorbed by our blood. This is as result of a deficiency of hormone called insulin in human body. In diabetics, the body becomes resistant to this hormone and it is not utilized by our body in the right manner or in some patients it is not even produce by pancreas.

Why is International Diabetes Day celebrated on 14 November?

It was actually decided by the World Health Organization in 1991 because of increasing number of patients of diabetes. Earlier it was only celebrated in United States, but since 2006 it was celebrated worldwide.

Also, there is the reason to celebrate it only on 14 November. Actually the cure of diabetes is insulin which was discovered by Frederick Banting with Chauls Bait in 1922 and Frederick’s birthday was also on 14 November. In today’s time also, it is one of the largest campaigns in the world which was established to spread awareness among masses. Surprisingly, it is now celebrated in over 160 countries across the world.

What is diabetes?

Now let’s talk about it in a bit detail. So, there are still many people who are still confused when we talk about this disease and it is because of its various types as it differs in different age groups.

First of all, this is not a disease which is caused by any virus or germ, in fact, it is the consequence of our changing lifestyles and thus it is closely associated to what we eat. Definitely we get energy from the food and that’s why we even it. But it largely depends on what we eat and what we do to churn the energy obtained from the food.

When we eat anything, it changes into starch first and then into glucose. The glucose further transmitted to our cells in order to gain energy. Now the question is how glucose is transported to our whole body. Well, there comes the role of Insulin. Actually, insulin helps glucose reach the cells of our body in a balanced way.

But when we talk about diabetics. This process is no longer smooth in their body because insulin is not produced in their body naturally and thus extra glucose is transported to their body which is really very dangerous.

How many types of diabetes are there?

There are generally 2 types of diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes:

The amount of insulin in the body of a diabetic patient is reduced, which can be controlled, but cannot be eradicated. In this, the patient is given insulin from outside. Due to which their life goes on normal. In type 1 diabetes, pancreatic beta cells do not produce insulin, which is impossible to treat. This diabetes affects children and youth up to 19 years very quickly.

Type 2 Diabetes:

Type 2 diabetes patients have less insulin or the body is unable to use insulin completely. In this, the body makes insulin, but in small amounts and many times those insulin does not work well.
